The transportation engineering graduate program at Michigan
Tech emphasizes the aspects of transportation materials
and rural transportation issues.
Transportation engineering is a diverse field and involves
several specialty areas. Exciting opportunities are available
for students to develop a program in transportation materials,
pavement design and rehabilitation, or rural transportation
issues. Students may also take courses or pursue research
in other transportation related areas such as highway and
airport planning and design, construction, and environmental
engineering.
The graduate program draws on the expertise and experience
of the faculty. Basic transportation engineering principles
are applied in course work, and research may be focused on
several areas including:
pavement design and rehabilitation
pavement management systems
cold regions engineering
airport planning and design
highway engineering
railroad engineering
traffic safety
transportation materials
transportation planning
Research in the transportation
area is often conducted in coordination with the Michigan Technological
University Transportation Center.
