Arman is a Ph.D. candidate in Structural Engineering with a focus on resilient structures and earthquake engineering. His research interests include Earthquake Engineering, Structural Health Monitoring, and Resilient Structures. His goal is to promote Structural Engineering Institute`s vision in the Michigan Technological University and ultimately the state of Michigan.

Jeet is pursuing his Ph.D. in Civil engineering with a focus on 'Glass as a structural member' . Jeet enjoys photography, hiking, cooking, and playing soccer. Elected to the vice president chair he intends to stay true to the objective of SEI and work towards building a strong foundation for the chapter. Feel free to contact Jeet if you have any questions regarding SEI or any other subject matter or if you just want to say hi to him.

Julie is an accelerated M.S. civil/structural engineering student, and intends on graduating in May 2020. She is very excited to be a part of the first SEI chapter in the state of Michigan, and is looking forward to working with Arman, Jeet, and Alex to raise awareness of SEI on our campus and community.

Alex Baker

Alex is a Master’s student in structural engineering. His research interests include resilient systems, earthquake engineering, finite element methods, and structural optimization. When Alex is not doing research, he enjoys hiking, biking, and enjoying the snow in Houghton.

Dr. Daniel M. Dowden, PE, SE

Dr. Dowden is an Assistant Professor at Michigan Technological University. He received his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo (UB) in 2014. Upon graduating from UB he stayed on for two years as a testing engineer conducting service-to-industry seismic qualification shake-table testing at the Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory at the University at Buffalo. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was a practicing structural engineer in Seattle, WA for ten years responsible for the design and project management of new building construction and seismic rehabilitation of existing building projects.
