When you visit the museum, you will be able to see a systematic reference collection that began back in 1888 for the students of the Michigan Mining School, now known as Michigan Technological University. This museum was officially established in 1902 receiving its name in 1937 from its first curator, A. E. Seaman.

The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum is recognized worldwide for having one of the premier crystal collections in North America. It also has the world's finest collection of minerals from the Lake Superior Copper District, including datolite, agate, silver, and, of course, copper.
