John
F. Marshall, Class of '68
Mr. John F. Marshall, a 1968 civil engineering graduate of
Michigan Tech, is President and General Manager of Lake Superior
and Ishpeming Railroad Company. After graduation, he was a
pit operations engineer for Kennecott Copper in Salt Lake
City until 1973 when he began a similar position with Cleveland-Cliffs.
He worked for Cleveland-Cliffs for 20 years advancing to the
positions of Senior Staff Engineer, Manager of Human Resources,
Manager-Cliffs Electric Service Company, and General Superintendent
at both the Empire and Tilden Mines. In 1993, he became the
President and General Manager of the Lake Superior and Ishpeming
Railroad Company.
Mr. Marshall is a member of the American Institute of Mining
Engineers. He has a long history of community service including
President of the Michigan Tech Alumni Association, Executive
Board Member of the Hiawathaland Boy Scout Council, Industrial
Chairman of Marquette County's United Way, member of the Marquette
Kiwanis Club and the Marquette Ambassadors. He is a member
of the Michigan Tech's President's Club.
