Solar Irradiance Headquarters
The air quality laboratories at Michigan Technological University are providing solar energy data gathered at a remote field site in Houghton, Michigan to students everywhere via the World Wide Web. At the field site, several wavelengths of sunlight ranging from 300nm to 1100nm are being continuously recorded. The broadband and narrow bandwidth measurements correspond to wavelengths that are absorbed by various particles in the atmosphere. The measurements can be used to determine the amount of water vapor, particulate matter, ozone and UV-B radiation in a column of the atmosphere above the site. All data gathered from the radiometers is downloaded several times daily and is available here. In addition, a Langley Analysis of the data is attempted once a day and the results are archived on the web. |
