Dr. Van Dam's major area of teaching and research is pavement materials and design. His current research projects include the "Detection, Analysis, and Treatment of Materials-Related Distress in Concrete Pavements," funded by the Federal Highway Administration, "The Effects of Higher Strength and Associated Concrete Properties on Pavement Performance," funded by the Federal Highway Administration, and several others. Dr. Van Dam has published a variety of reports for the Transportation Research Board and has published in the Proceedings of the 1995 ASCE Transportation Congress.
