Theresa 'Teri' Liermann (Leer-men) received her BS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida in May 2006. Teri was born in Madison, Wisconsin and lived there long enough to hold onto a Midwestern accent until she and her family moved to upstate New
York. At age 15, Teri's family moved down south to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. This part of Florida may as well have been another country for how different it was from everything else she'd known up to that point, but soon acclimated herself and discovered she absolutely reveled in the culture it had to offer. After a few years, she finished high school and went on to be a Florida Gator.
During her final year of undergrad Teri was a bit jaded with school but knew she wanted a Masters sooner than later and also wanted to do Peace Corps before a 9-5 took over. So she looked into a really cool program a friend showed her... at first she dismissed it because she'd never heard of Michigan Tech but later found out it's a pretty good school and why not?! The rest is history in the making.
Now Teri is looking forward to leaving at the end of May '07 for her Fiji assignment as an Environmental Resource Management Promoter working on solid waste management projects. Fiji was not what she had in mind when applying to be a peace corps volunteer but after researching the country is really excited for the opportunity to live in the South Pacific. She plans to continue her love of skin diving, sailing, biking, kayaking, hiking and hopefully become certified in SCUBA. Plus, Teri welcomes any
visitors who may be planning a trip to Fiji, New Zealand, or Australia!
