Nathan Manser, BS Mining Engineering, Michigan Technological University, MS planned in Civil Engineering

Originally from Wisconsin, Nathan has worked throughout the mining industry at operations located in Florida, Arizona and Minnesota since earning his B.S. in 2000. His responsibilities ranged from a supportive engineering role to a front-line supervisor in the mines. In his opinion the overall industry attitude towards sustainable responsibility is reactionary and major changes in industry culture are required.

He is looking forward to his return to the Houghton area – and would be disappointed if there was not a record snowfall this year. In his free time he practices the art and science of zymology and running.

Nathan is motivated by the potential that the MI program offers and is excited by the diversity of its students. “My optimism is that this program will help expand the disciplines needed to promote a culture of sustainability; but more so, it is about the self-belief developed in the Peace Corps that will prove to be the greatest asset.”
