Matt Kucharski, BS Civil Engineering, Arizona State University, MS planned in Environmental Engineering (serving in Philippines)

Raised on the outskirts of Tombstone, Arizona, i spent much of my youth exploring the desert.  Once in high school i became active in many sports but most significant was cross country.  Running and the desert symbolizes many things about my life.  After high school, i wanted to try something very different from rural Arizona and decided to attend Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.

At Arizona State University, i took advantage of the many opportunities offered by working with several professors on research, studying abroad, and participating in an REU program in St. Louis at Washington University.  Environment issues became the focus of my studies.  After five years i graduated with a degree in civil engineering with an environmental emphasis.  I also decided to continue my education at MTU in the Environmental Engineering and the Master’s International Program.

Although my interest encompasses most areas in environmental engineering, my focus at the moment is water resources.  My Peace Corps assignment is Coastal Resource Management Extension Worker in the Philippines.  The work is primarily to assist in preservation of the local marine resources.
