Jonathan Annis has a B.S. in Environmental
Engineering from Florida State University and is currently working
on his M.S. in Environmental Engineering at Michigan Technological
University. Jonathan will be working as a environment volunteer
in Madagascar beginning in February, 2003.
His Peace Corps assignment description is “The purpose of
the environment project is to improve the conservation of Madagascar’s
protected areas and their associated benefits (watershed, non-timber
forest products, etc.) Techniques include reducing natural resource
degradation resulting from unsustainable agriculture and forest
product use in the peripheral zones around protected areas and establishing
locally run sustainable income generating activities linked to the
protected areas.” Jonathan hopes to study the effects of differing
land uses on the hydrology of the region. As a secondary project,
Jonathan would like to organize small-scale water sanitation projects
within his community.
