Steven Wright, Metropolitan State, Business Administration

“What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been”
The Grateful Dead song could be the soundtrack to Steve’s biography. The journey started in Shakopee, Minnesota, a rural suburb of Minneapolis.  Steve grew up spending time on friends dairy farms, riding ATV’s, working on cars and developing a love of the outdoors and adventure.
Steve graduated from Shakopee Sr. High and then spent a few years working full-time and taking classes at a local community college. After studying Japanese for a year Steve was able to spend 3 weeks traveling in Japan, including spending 5 days living with a host family. This experience created a deep desire to meet different people, experience other cultures and see new places.
The next 15 years would be spent serving as a paratrooper in the US Army, managing auto parts stores, working as a long-haul truck driver, earning a degree in business administration, working as an operations manager for a trucking firm, and working as a sales manager for a very large bank.
At some point towards the end of the beginning of his journey, Steve turned away from the dark side and began to seek an environmental engineering program to launch him on his way to a new career away from the clutches of his corporate banking task-masters. The search led him to MTU’s website and the discovery of the Masters International program. From that moment forward there was little doubt that this program would be the beginning of the next stage of his journey.
Several years of engineering fundamentals coursework paved the way to Houghton in August of 20007. While the transition from business to environmental engineering has not always been easy, the incredible community of the MI program at Tech has made it all enjoyable.
