Institute of Transportation Engineers
http://www.ite.org
The Institute of Transportation Engineers was founded in 1930 for the
purpose of enabling
"engineers and other professionals with knowledge and competence in
transportation and traffic engineering to contribute individually and
collectively toward meeting human needs for mobility and safety and to
promote professional development of members, by the support and encouragement
of education, stimulation of research, development of public awareness,
exchange of professional information, and maintenance of a central point
of reference and action."
Admission to the Institute promotes international recognition and enhances
one's status as a transportation professional, with definite advantages. Among
other activities, ITE:
- Maintains Districts, Sections, Councils, and other points of contact;
- Publishes technical information and other items of interest in the ITE Journal;
- Publishes annually the ITE Membership Directory that identifies members
alphabetically and geographically;
- Sets standards and recommended practices through its technical committees;
- Publishes valuable handbooks and manuals used throughout the profession;
- Advocates for improved laws and regulations;
- Conducts meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars;
- Conducts the Burton W. Marsh Fellowship for graduate study in traffic and
transportation engineering and the Harold F. Hammond Scholarship. In addition,
some Districts, Sections, and Councils offer their own fellowships and scholarships;
- Publishes training materials; and
- Maintains a Web site that includes current positions available, a student resume
service, meeting information, and more.
