| This laboratory
facility will perform research into the application of process models
used in the design and operation of biological and chemical wastewater
treatment plants. Studies conducted in this laboratory involve the
principles of physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes
employed in wastewater treatment and the design of selected individual
unit operations within wastewater treatment systems. This laboratory
will be used by both graduate students for research and undergraduate
students in the typical classroom/laboratory setting. As
a result of the research conducted in this laboratory more efficient
wastewater treatment plant designs will be able to be developed.
Modifications based on the results of this laboratory to existing
treatment plant designs will be made possible from studies conducted
on bench, pilot and full-scale operating wastewater treatment plants.
As a
result of the teaching capacity of this laboratory students will
learn about the operation of wastewater treatment plants through
laboratory sections designed around the processes of biological
and chemical wastewater treatment plants such as oxygen transfer,
sedimentation, and advanced processes like adsorption. |
