Surface Water Quality Field Preparation Lab
816 Dow Environmental Sciences & Engineering
Surface water quality engineering deals with the evaluation of pollutant impacts on river, lakes, and reservoirs and the design of engineered works to prevent or remediate problems. Teaching and research activity in surface water quality engineering depends heavily on the conduct of field monitoring and experimentation programs. The field prep lab serves as an outfitting platform for sampling trips and as a location for the receipt and distribution of samples received from field operations. The facility will support glassware cleaning, sample processing (subsampling, filtration, drying/ashing, freeze-drying, preservation), and the maintenance and storage of field equipment. The lab is closely linked to the Environmental Chambers (810 and 817 Dow) which will serve in sample storage and is conceived as the dirty, wet, and noisy counterpart to the Surface Water Quality Sediment (858 Dow) and Surface Water Quality Kinetics (860 Dow) Laboratories.
