GRADUATION INFORMATION

Degree Audit Information and Instructions

Please remember –
It is your responsibility to make sure your degree audit is correct at all times.

Application for Graduation

File your application for graduation with the Degree Services Office at least one full semester prior to your expected graduation date (ie. If you’re graduating in a spring semester, complete your application by the end of the previous fall).  You may file your Application for Graduation via the web at http://www.mtu.edu/registrar/students/graduation/application/

Degree Audit Information and Instructions

In order to help assure that you meet all graduation requirements, it is necessary that you complete a degree audit at least one full semester prior to the anticipated completion of your degree. Degree Audits are available in the Degree Services Office, Advisor – Julie Ross’ Office (103 Dillman Hall), and on the OSRR Degree Services Website.

Complete your degree audit (USE INK) by using the course status codes listed below and a copy of your MTU transcript:

    • M - Required, met with a grade of A,B,C,D, Transfer credit, or advanced placement credit
    • R - Currently registered in course
    • P - Plan to take in the future
    • WVD - Waived course or credit (waived courses and credits do not reduce the total degree credits required)
    • SUB - Course has been successfully petitioned as a substitute, satisfying the curriculum requirement. Put the number of the course you are substituting on the line next to the required course.

Note: Be sure to put courses in the appropriate category (major, concentration, general education, free electives) checking them off on your transcript to make certain you don't miss any. Remedial courses (courses below 1000) do not count toward degree credit and should not be listed on your audit. Once you have completed your degree audit and all requirements for graduation are being met (indicated by completed (M), registered (R) or planned courses (P)) schedule a meeting with Julie Ross (jzross@mtu.edu) to review and sign the degree audit. Make sure you keep a copy of your degree audit, once approved. Degree Audits will not be approved until all electives (professional, general education distribution and co-curricular) are filled in.

Julie Ross will forward the approved audit and any additional paperwork to the University Degree Services Office where they will be kept on file until your graduation.

Please note: You must have a degree audit on file in order for Degree Services to confirm your graduation and list you for a commencement ceremony.

Professional Electives

All professional electives are listed on the back of the flowcharts.

Civil Engineering students must choose professional electives from the back of the flowchart.  If taking CE4905, you must take a “CE” Professional Elective (3 credits) with a major design component.  The approved CE professional electives with a major design component are listed below or on the back of the flowchart (marked with an asterisk).  On the degree audit, place one of these courses in the space below CE4905 where is states “CE4910 OR CE Professional Elective”.

CE4508 Water and Wastewater Treatment
CE4507 Collection & Distribution Design
CE4820 Foundation Design
CE4830 Geosynthetics in Engineering Practice
CE4211 Reinforced Concrete Design
CE4221 Structural Steel Design
CE4231 Timber and Masonry Design
CE4402 Traffic Engineering
CE4403 Traffic Safety Engineering
CE4406 Airport Planning and Design
CE4630 Hydraulic Structures
CE4610 Civil & Engineering Systems Analysis
CE4640 Stormwater Management and Low Impact Development
CE4990 Green Building

Environmental Engineering students may choose professional electives from any of the lists on the back of the flowchart.  Courses can come from more than one list.

General Education Distribution Courses

General education distribution courses need to be filled in prior to approving the degree audit.  Distribution courses can be found online on the Office of Students Records and Registration website (http://www.admin.mtu.edu/em/students/plan/).

EC3400 is required for BSCE & BSEEn students and is on the “Institutions” list.

GE2000 cannot be used to satisfy distribution requirements.

** Students may opt to use language courses (all the same language) to satisfy 12 credits of distribution courses. EC3400 satisfies the last 3 credits.

Making Changes to a Degree Audit

Many changes may take place after submission of a degree audit (substitution of one course for another, failure of a course, etc.). If you have altered your original course plan in any way since completion of your degree audit, it is necessary that you inform your academic advisor of the changes as soon as possible. Updating your audit is an essential step in making sure that you stay on track for graduation.

If numerous changes have taken place since you first turned your degree audit in to your advisor making it messy or illegible, consult with your advisor about completing a new one for submission to Degree Services. It is imperative that we have a neat, concise, final degree audit form suitable for checking and archiving.

Please remember –
It is your responsibility to make sure your degree audit is correct at all times.
