Certificates:

Teacher Certification
With a B.S. in engineering you can get a teaching certificate and be qualified to teach high school math and science. Not sure if teaching is for you? Try it out with ED3510/3511. Advising Tip: Take PSY2000 as a distribution course it is a prereq. to the ED courses.

Writing Certificate
The ability to communicate is key to leadership and growth as an engineer as in any aspect of your life.

Modern Language Certificate
Students may opt to get a language certificate in French, German or Spanish.

International Sustainable Development Engineering Certificate

http://www.d80.mtu.edu/Certificate.html

The Michigan Tech International Sustainable Development Engineering (ISDE) Certificate program allows undergraduate engineering students to augment their technical education with the knowledge, skills, and experiences important to working on solutions in developing communities. The 22-semester hour certificate program is designed to be woven throughout any engineering baccalaureate degree program.

Second Degree
Some students opt to get a 2nd degree in biology, business, surveying. Depending on your interests and career goals, consider the option of getting a Masters Degree rather than a 2nd B.S. degree (it takes about the same amount of time).

Minors:
There are over 50 different minors you can opt to add to your degree program ranging from art and music to ecology or international studies. Minors range from 16-19 credits and can be completed in no more than one extra semester. For a list of minors with their requirements and descriptions go to http://www.admin.mtu.edu/em/students/graduation/minor.php.

Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering:

Minor in Municipal Engineering

Municipal engineering is the planning, design, building, and management of facilities vital to the well being of a municipality. This minor focuses on course work that will provide the breadth of information important to a municipal engineer.

Enterprise
Industries, along with students, benefit from the Enterprise Program. The program meets private industry's needs for graduates who not only have technical competence, but also understand the practical application of skills and knowledge. Check out the various programs at www.enterprise.mtu.edu.

Advising Tip: Careful planning will allow you to use courses as electives for your degree and toward a certificate or minor.
