the ladybug was placed on a motorized stage. above the stage
is
a stationary x-ray guide tube with a 100 micrometer diameter. below the
stage is a photomultiplier to detect transmitted x-rays. the
motorized
stage moves the ladybug beneath the x-ray tube while the
photomultiplier
records the transmitted x-rays. a transmitted x-ray image of the
entire ladybug is made in this way.




we also have a 10 micrometer guide tube, but it is not currently
installed.
when the 10 micrometer x-ray guide tube is reinstalled, i will try this
experiment again. the picture was made using an XGT-2000W
Horiba/Oxford X-ray Analytical Microscope.
