ladybug x-ray picture

the ladybug was placed on a motorized stage.  above the stage is a stationary x-ray guide tube with a 100 micrometer diameter. below the stage is a photomultiplier to detect transmitted x-rays.  the motorized stage moves the ladybug beneath the x-ray tube while the photomultiplier records the transmitted x-rays.  a transmitted x-ray image of the entire ladybug is made in this way.

we also have a 10 micrometer guide tube, but it is not currently installed.  when the 10 micrometer x-ray guide tube is reinstalled, i will try this experiment again.  the picture was made using an XGT-2000W Horiba/Oxford X-ray Analytical Microscope.
